Knowing and Doing the Will of God

There are many times when we have heard the Lord’s voice and we know with all of our heart that He has spoken to us. When He speaks to us on a matter, our correct response is to obey what He has asked us to do. When we choose to obey Him and walk in Obedience to what He has instructed us in, it does not mean it will be easy.

Over the last several months, I’ve been learning a lot about hearing from God and obeying God. I’ve always known God’s voice when He speaks, but it has been a challenging journey for me in the last several months in obeying God in what I have heard. One of the best lessons I have learned is that even though He commands us to follow his word and His will, each of us has a free will to choose what we will do or not do. In Deuteronomy we read,

“You can make this choice by loving The Lord your God, obeying Him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.  (Deuteronomy 30:20)

Even though we may hear God speaking to us on an important matter, He gives us the right to choose whether or not we will obey and follow Him. He gives us a free will to lay aside our own will and ultimately follow after and live His will for our lives. In the midst of this journey I have been on, I have gained a new understanding of the depth of God’s love for me,  and  how much He truly cares about me and my heart.

I love in 1 peter 4:2 he says…” You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires , but you will be anxious to do the will of God. Man… You want to talk about dying to the flesh daily. There came a point in my life where I finally said ok God, I want everything you have for me and I’m willing to sacrifice my desires for yours… No matter how much it hurts or how far I have to be stretched. I’ve heard The Lord on many occasions, and had times where I just flat out didn’t want to do it, but because I knew The Lord was in it and walking with me… I listened and obeyed! We can also get a word from The Lord about someone, or even someone’s situation but ultimately it all comes down to that persons obedience and their “CHOICE” to obey Gods word. Yes… Listening and obeying The Lord isn’t always easy but then I begin to think about Jesus and him dying on the cross for me wasn’t that easy either!!! He listened and obeyed his fathers will all the way to the cross, where he died for our sins so we wouldn’t have to die and go to hell, but to have the gift of eternal life…Amen!!!! Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart.  Trust and obey.
